Trump says praise for May was axed from explosive interview

President Trump said he “apologized” to Theresa May for the bombshell interview he did with The Sun — but only because the story failed to mention all the “good things” he said about her.

“She’s a total professional because when I saw her this morning, I said, ‘I want to apologize because I said such good things about you.’ She said, ‘Don’t worry, it’s only the press,'” Trump told reporters at a joint press conference Friday with the UK prime minister. “I thought that was very professional.”
The remarks represented a rare instance where Trump issued an apology.

In a diplomatic faux pas, Trump sharply criticized May’s approach to the Brexit negotiations in an interview Thursday, saying the UK’s soft withdrawal from the bloc would “probably kill” a UK-US trade deal.
